Three-phase modulation modulates all of the three phases of a three-phase inverter simultaneously (to generate a sinusoidal PWM signal) whereas two-phase modulation modulates two of the three phases at any one time while holding the other phase at High or Low level.
The two-phase inverter has two switching devices less than that of the conventional three-phase inverter. In order to supply power from the two-phase inverter to a three-phase motor which is the load, the wiring of one-phase of the motor is connected to the center potential of the DC source as shown in Fig. 1.

From 300 - 360 : s5 and s6 are in conduction while remaining switches are opened. A three phase inverter transmits more power over long distances compared to single phase power.
Recent research into motor drives utilizing two-phase inverters have developed advanced techniques with different control methods. This paper compares performances of the two-phase inverter-fed three-phase induction motor drive using V/f control and three indirect vector control methods are performed with the same experimental apparatus.
