In the European market, lithium-ion batteries currently range from €200 to €300 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), with prices continuing to decrease as manufacturing scales up and technology improves.

Recent industry analysis reveals that lithium-ion battery storage systems now average €300-400 per kilowatt-hour installed, with projections indicating a further 40% cost reduction by 2030. For utility operators and project developers, these economics reshape the fundamental calculations of grid stabilization and peak demand management.

This study shows that battery electricity storage systems offer enormous deployment and cost-reduction potential. By 2030, total installed costs could fall between 50% and 60% (and battery cell costs by even more), driven by optimisation of manufacturing facilities, combined with better combinations and reduced use of materials.
