In Spain, the progress has been even more dramatic. Photovoltaics reached an all-time high, accounting for 21% of electricity generation, nearly double the EU average. This marks a significant jump from 17% in 2023, solidifying Spain's position as a leader in solar energy adoption. What are photovoltaics?
Despite competition from other renewable sources and challenges related to grid infrastructure and storage, Spain remains steadfast in its commitment to solar energy, demonstrated by its ambitious National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP), targeting a 42% renewable share by 2030.
It will be able to provide clean electricity to around 87,000 homes, preventing the annual emission of more than 83,500 tonnes of CO 2 into the atmosphere. With an installed power of 75 MW (129,600 panels), this plant will be located in the Madrid municipalities of Fuenlabrada and Parla and will involve an investment of around €31 million.
